Here in Carrboro, NC, everyone is aghast at the events of the past week. We
are all walking in a daze. If we give in to the terrorists, we'll continue
walking in a daze. But on Saturday, we had a town meeting to plan what our town
would be like in 20 years, and about 200 people showed up. We talked about how
we want our town to be good for our kids and grandkids, and how we want art and
song to fill our town. Like good Americans, really like good people all around
the world, we believe in a better future. The terrorists seem to want little
else than to stop that optimism, but I hope, after the pain and sadness, we all
start to find that spark of optimism, hope, love, and peace, again.
Good wishes to all, in New York, DC, and Kabul. I refuse to let hatred divide
us.
