What has happened in New York is incomprehensible. It is particularly troubling because it does make us feel so powerless. My wife, Judi, and I spent the day and into the night, as most of you probably did, watching the television footage and listening as others struggled to articulate what we were feeling: sorrow, anger, fear. My first thought on awakening the morning after was whether what had happened could possibly have been real or just some terrible nightmare.
